Caring for your pieces
Wearing your pieces
- Put your jewellery on after perfume, lotion, hairspray and hand sanitiser have dried. These can leave a film that dulls the finish.
- Take it off before showering, swimming, exercising, cooking or cleaning. Water, chlorine, salt water, sweat and household chemicals can all speed up tarnishing.
- If your jewellery comes into contact with chemicals, rinse it with clean water and dry it gently.
- Avoid extreme heat, like saunas, hot tubs, hot cars and direct sunlight.
- Wear your pieces often. Jewellery that’s worn regularly tends to tarnish more slowly than pieces left sitting in a drawer.
Storing your pieces
- Keep each piece in its own pouch or in your Fellowship box, so they don’t tangle or scratch one another.
- Fasten chains before storing them to prevent knots.
- Choose a cool, dry, dark spot, away from the bathroom and other humid areas.
- Singapore’s humidity can make silver tarnish faster, so a small silica gel packet in your box or pouch helps keep moisture away.
Cleaning 925 silver, gold-plated and gold-filled pieces
- Once or twice a month, wipe each piece gently with a soft, clean microfibre cloth. Wipe in one direction rather than in circles, and don’t overdo it, since too much polishing can wear down the plating.
- For a deeper clean, add two or three drops of mild dish soap to a bowl of lukewarm water. Dip a soft, lint-free cloth into the water and gently wipe your piece. Rinse it in clean water, then pat it dry or leave it on a cloth to air dry.
- Avoid paper towels, tissues and rough fabrics, as they can scratch the surface.
- Avoid silver polishing cloths, toothpaste, toothbrushes, alcohol and ultrasonic cleaners. These can strip or damage the plating.
If your piece tarnishes
Don’t worry. Sterling silver naturally darkens over time when it reacts with the air, and it isn’t a sign that anything is wrong. A gentle clean with mild soap and water usually brings back the shine. If you’re unsure, get in touch and we’ll help you.
Cleaning stainless steel pieces
- 316L stainless steel is the most resilient of our materials, but its gold PVD plating still lasts longer with gentle care.
- Clean it the same way as your silver and gold pieces, with mild soap, lukewarm water and a soft cloth, then dry it well.
Cleaning moissanite and stones
- After wearing, wipe each stone gently with a soft cloth dampened with warm water to remove oils and residue.
- Dry it thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. Avoid hairdryers, as the heat can damage the setting.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, hot water and ultrasonic cleaners.
