Long before maps, and before compasses had needles, there was the North Star. While every other star seemed to drift across the sky, it stayed fixed in one place. Sailors steered by it, and travellers found their way home by it. One point of light, always there to keep walking towards.
That idea is where the North Star Earrings began.
A compass and a star, in one
When I started sketching this piece, I knew I wanted two things in it. The first was a compass, the tool we reach for when we’re trying to find our way. The second was a star, the light that guided people long before any compass existed.

The challenge was making them one shape rather than two ideas placed side by side. I went through a few versions. Some looked too much like a compass and lost the softness of a star. Others were just a star, and the sense of direction disappeared. What I was looking for was the moment you look at it and see both at once: the points of a compass rose that also read as rays of light.

The final design does exactly that. Each point reaches outward like a compass direction, but together they shine like a star. It hangs from a small huggie hoop, so it moves when you turn your head and catches the light as it does.
The meaning behind it
The North Star Earrings were inspired by the story of the travellers who followed a star across a long and unfamiliar road:
“The star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.”
Matthew 2:9–10 (NIV)
What has always moved me about this story is that they didn’t know the whole road. They had no map, no clear timeline and no guarantee of what they’d find. What they had was a light, and they kept following it.
I think most of us know that feeling. We’re starting something new, choosing a path we can’t fully see, or trying to trust the next step when the one after it isn’t clear yet. A light like that doesn’t show you everything, but it’s steady enough to keep walking towards.
That’s what I wanted these earrings to be: a small reminder that you don’t need to see the whole road to keep going. You just need something true to follow.
Made for the in-between
Fellowship is made for beginnings and the uncertain stretches that come with them. The North Star felt like a natural part of that story. It’s for anyone finding their way, whether they’re moving to a new city, starting a new job or walking into a season they didn’t plan for.
Wherever you’re headed, I hope it reminds you that you’re being guided, even when you can’t see it yet.
The details
The North Star Earrings come in 925 sterling silver with rhodium plating, or with thick 18k gold plating. They hang from a small huggie hoop and are designed to be worn every day. Each pair arrives in a Fellowship gift box with a microfibre bag and care card.
