Every collection starts somewhere. For Fellowship, it started with a sun.
The Sun & Shield was the very first piece I ever designed. Before there was a finalised name for the brand, a collection, or even a plan for what any of this would become, there was a sketch of a small sun and a verse I couldn’t stop thinking about.
Where it began
I’ve always been drawn to sunbursts. There’s something about the shape that feels hopeful, like light that can’t help spilling outwards. It’s a design that has been loved for a long time, and you’ll find sunburst pendants in many jewellery stores.
That was exactly my challenge. I loved the shape, but I didn’t want to make another version of something that already existed. I wanted it to carry something more, and to look a little different every time you glanced at it.
So I started playing with the rays and the symbol of a sun. It’s a small change, but it means the message behind the pendant clearer and it makes the design more distinct.
The meaning behind it
The name comes from a verse that has stayed with me through a lot of seasons:
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”
Psalm 84:11 (NIV)
What I love about this verse is that it holds two things at once. A sun is warmth. It’s being seen, known and welcomed, even before you feel you’ve earned it. A shield is protection. It’s something standing between you and whatever is coming next.
Most of us need both, often in the same week. We need to feel warmth on the days we’re seen, and covering on the days we’re not ready to be. I wanted this necklace to hold both of those things, so you can carry a small reminder of each with you.
Why it came first
Fellowship is made for beginnings: a first job, a new city, a fresh start, a next chapter. It felt right that the first piece I ever made would be about walking into something new and not doing it alone.
When I wear it, it reminds me that whatever I’m stepping into, I’m not stepping into it unaccompanied. I hope it does the same for you.

The Sun & Shield comes in 925 sterling silver with thick rhodium plating or thick 18k gold plating. It’s made in small quantities, hypoallergenic, and designed to be worn every day. Each one arrives in a Fellowship gift box with a care card.
